The 2001 505 World Championship will be held at Cascais, Portugal, from 19 to 28 September 2001.

1. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Organizing Authority for the Championship is the CLUBE NAVAL DE CASCAIS, on behalf of the International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association and the Federação Portuguesa de Vela.

2. RULES
The Championship will be governed by:
· the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS),
· the Prescriptions of the Federação Portuguesa de Vela, where applicable,
· the Rules of the International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association (CR), except as any of these are changed by this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, and
· the Sailing Instructions (SI).
Where there is any conflict in the interpretation of the RRS or CR, the English text shall prevail.

3. TRANSPORTATION
MACS as sponsor of the 505 Worlds will transport the boats by container for a fee of 100 Euros, from any point of the world to Cascais and back.

The transportation fee will be paid together with the entry fee of the Championship to Clube Naval de Cascais.

Please contact you local fleet officer where to delivery the boats for transportation.

4. ENTRIES
Entries, together with full payment of entry fees, shall arrive at the address shown on the Entry Form, before 15 August 2001.
Entry fees are:
· 320 Euros +100 Euros (If transportation provided by MACS)
· A 50% late entry fee penalty will be payable on entries received after 15 August 2001.

The entry fee includes the participation at all social events.

The 2001 505 World Championship is an open regatta.

Entrants in the Championship shall comply with the ISAF Eligibility Rules as provided in RRS Appendix K.

All crews shall be members of the International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association, and they must have paid the subscription for the year in which the championship is held.

The Organizing Authority will not stipulate a maximum number of entries.

5. ELIGIBILITY
The 2001 505 World Championship is an open regatta.

Entrants in the Championship shall comply with the ISAF Eligibility Rules as provided in RRS Appendix K.

7. REGISTRATION
Registration will take place at the Regatta Office at Clube Naval de Cascais at the following times:
- Tuesday 18 September 18.00 - 19.30 hrs
- Wednesday 19 September 09.00 - 10.30 hrs
- Thursday 20 September 09.00 - 10.30 hrs
- Friday 21 September 10.00 - 18.00hrs

8. MEASUREMENT
Measurement will take place at the Clube Naval Cascais as follows:
- Wednesday 19 September 13.00 - 18.00 hrs
- Thursday 20 September 13.00 - 18.00 hrs
- Friday 21 September 09.00 - 18.00 hrs

Competitors not sailing in any of the pre world's races may present their boat for measurement on the first two days. Any boat not measured on these days will be allocated a time on Friday 21 September when it must be presented for measurement. All boats must be presented in accordance with instructions issued by the International Measurer who will be made available to all competitors on registration. Only two suits of sails and two sets of spars may be presented for measurement. All sails and other measured equipment will be stamped. Additional sails or spars may only be replaced under exceptional circumstances and with the written approval of the International Jury.

A boat may be checked for Class Rules compliance at any time during the Championship.

9. SOCIAL EVENTS

10. ADVERTISING
Competitors will be permitted to carry advertising on their boats and sails in accordance with category C of the Racing Rules of Sailing. Competitors may be required to display advertising of the Event Sponsor, on each side of the boat, on the forward 25% of the hull.

11. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be available on the Clube Naval de Cascais Website no later than August 2001 and will be issued to each competitor on completion of registration.

12. COURSES
The courses will be detailed in the Sailing Instructions.

13. PENALTIES
Penalties for infringement of Rules of Part 2, in accordance with RRS 44 shall apply.

14. INTERNATIONAL JURY
An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix Q. The decisions of the International Jury will be final in accordance with RRS 70.4.

15. SCORING
The Bonus Point Scoring System, rule A2, will apply.

16. DOPING CONTROL
Competitors are reminded of the ISAF rules and regulations concerning the use of banned methods and substances. Competitors may be required to undergo doping control testing in accordance with RRS Appendix L.

17. BUOYANCY AIDS
All competitors shall wear, while racing, personal floatation devices that are in good condition and are in accordance with the specifications issued by or approved by a national authority affiliated to the ISAF, or standards organization, or certification authority, recognized for the purpose by its respective government. Attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 1.2.

18. PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded down to at least tenth place for helmsman and crew.

There will be prizes for: First overall with no discard, first mixed team and first helmsman under 25 years.

19. TELEVISION AND MEDIA
Attendance at media press conferences at the conclusion of each day of racing may be required for all first 3 crews and top placed Portuguese.

20. SUPPORT BOATS
Support and coach boats drivers will be required to register with the Organizing Authority.

All support and coach boats will be required to display an identification flag (white with black letters, 40cm hoist x 60cm fly), bearing, on the both sides, the three letters code of the competitor's nation they are supporting, on a staff, and not provided by the Organizing Authority. (a national flag does not replace the requirements of this flag)

Support and coach boats are not permitted within 100 meters of the racing area whilst boats are racing, unless directed by the Race Committee.

21. LIABILITY
Competitors sail at their own risk. Injuries to competitors and damage to boats can and often does happen.

The Organizing Authority and all parties involved in the organization of the 2001 505 World Championship accept no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage or injury which may occur to any person or property, whether ashore or afloat, as a consequence of participation in the Championship or otherwise. The Organizing Authority and all parties involved in the Championship disclaim any and all such liability.

This Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions in no way limit or reduce the complete and unlimited responsibilities of a competitor for the management and care of a boat she or he has entered in the Championship.

22. INSURANCE
It is a condition of entry into the Championship, that each boat owner or competitor has a third party liability insurance cover to a minimum value of 535.000 Euros. Such insurance should cover all risks arising whist the competitor is participating in any way in the Championship whether ashore or afloat. Such cover should note the interests of the Organizing Authority. Each boat owner or competitor will be required by the Organizing Authority to produce evidence of such insurance.
