The Race
Clube Naval de Cascais and the Mirpuri Foundation establish this Notice of Race with the support of Associação Regional de Vela do Centro, for the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy “Youth Challenge”, which will be held on the 9th and 10th of July at the venue of Cascais.
This Sailing Trophy is for the youngest participants and consists of diverse races across various famous classes. Held close to shore, these short and exciting races will see some of the closest and most competitive racing.
1. RULES
1.1. The event will be governed by the “Rules” as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
1.2. In case of conflict, the Sailing Instructions prevail over the Notice of Race. This changes RRS 63.7.
1.3. Competitors may be required to display advertising chosen by the Organizing Authority in accordance with World Sailing (WS) Advertising Code - Regulation 20.3.1(a). Any required advertising material and instructions for their use, shall be distributed at the registration.
1.4. RRS 90.3(e) will apply.
2. ELEGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1. The event is open to boats of the following Class: Optimist.
2.2. Eligible boats may enter by completing the online entry form and submitting it to Clube Naval de Cascais before the 5th of July 2022.
2.3. The Organizing Authority reserves the right to accept entries after the established deadline.
2.4. Each boat shall personally confirm their registration and at that time shall present a copy of the boat insurance policy and a copy of the boat measurement certificate.
2.5. To support Youth Sailing, all fees for the Optimist Class will be sponsored by the Mirpuri Foundation and donated to active Marine Conservation programs.
3. Schedule
3.1. Registration will be made on the 9th of July from 9 am to 12 pm.
3.2. On the 1st day, the 1st warning signal will be made at 1 pm.
3.3. Number of races: 6 races are scheduled.
3.4. No more than 4 races will be sailed per day.
3.5. On Sunday, no warning signal will be made after 3 pm.
4. MEASUREMENT
Each boat shall produce a valid Measurement Certificate. Besides that, inspections may occur at any time by an Official Measurer, to comply with the Class Rules or Sailing Instructions.
5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be available from Thursday, the 30th of June 2022.
6. VENUE
6.1. The regatta will be held on Clube Naval de Cascais’s facilities.
6.2. The races will be held on Cascais Bay or on the Guia race areas.
7. THE COURSES
The courses to be sailed will be the Optimist Trapezoidal Course.
Each race will have a target time of 45 minutes. Times different of these will not be grounds for redress.
8. SCORING
8.1. One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
8.2. When 3 or less races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
9. SUPPORT BOATS
Support boats should register at the Race Office and will have to use mandatorily the identification required in the Sailing Instructions.
10. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
A boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile phones.
11. INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a cover amount appropriate to the activity.
12. SUSTAINABILITY
In addition to RRS 55, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy will be a sustainable plastic-free event, aiming to honor the Foundation’s Marine Conservation Program, implementing actions to protect our oceans.
Our Goal:
- Limit the event’s environmental footprint, minimizing waste and adopting good environmental practices;
- Reducing, reusing and recycling whenever possible;
- Banning single-use plastic from the event, including on the competing boats, eliminating the use of plastic bags, plastic water bottles and plastic packaging;
- Choose and promote the use of environmentally-friendly materials, in alternative to plastic;
- Guarantee, alongside Clube Naval de Cascais (hosting entity), recycling and water points;
- Encourage teams to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices;
- Lead by example, sharing the Mirpuri Foundation’s sustainability message, making sure that, together, we can all raise awareness to the need to protect our oceans and to influence the sailing world to make a positive change for the future of the planet.
13. PRIZES
Prizes will be given as follows:
- Top 3 boats of each class of the overall;
- The first female boat if 3 or more female boats on that class are racing.
14. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 3 - Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death, sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
15. MEDIA RELEASE AND IMAGE RIGHTS WAIVER
As part of the registration process, each Entrant, each Person in Charge and each individual participating crew member will be required to sign a declaration accepting the following media release and waiver of rights:
Competitors and crew members on the competing yachts grant, at no cost, Clube Naval de Cascais, Mirpuri Foundation, and affiliated companies the absolute right and permission to use their name, voice, image, likeness, biographical material as well as representations of the boats in any media (being television, print and internet media), including video footage, for the sole purposes of advertising, promoting, reporting and disseminating information relating to Mirpuri Foundation involvement in sailing events, in particular the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy (“the race”), and to the competitors and crew members’ participation in such events.
