THE CLUB CLUBE NAVAL DE CASCAIS

CLUBE NAVAL DE CASCAIS

Located in the Bay of Cascais, the Clube Naval de Cascais was founded in 1938 and, since its foundation, has played an important role in the development of water sports in Portugal, with special emphasis on sailing, making it one of the most prestigious nautical clubs in Portugal.

In 2013, the club celebrated his 75th birthday and was honored by His Excellency The President of the Republic, Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva, with the attribution of the "Honorary Member of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique" Tittle and, in 2018, on the occasion of his 80th Anniversary, was awarded by His Excellency The President of the Republic, Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the attribution of "Member of the Order of Public Instruction" Tittle.

The Club's new facilities were inaugurated in 2007, thus granting it the capacity to host the most diverse types of events. Currently, the Clube Naval de Cascais is properly prepared to serve its portfolio of more than 800 members, with dynamic and functional infrastructures, with multipurpose rooms, Gym, Restaurant, Bar, Library and "honour pier"..

It has the biggest sailing school in the country, which trains around 900 sailors a year, with a variety of learning levels in various classes such as Optimist, Cascais, Laser's Pico and Bahia, Ilca, Hobie Cat, Sprinto and Windsurf and with a high degree of flexibility with regard to age groups.

The CNC Sailing School started its activity in 1950 and, over the years, has been responsible for training many Portuguese sailors, who reached national and international projection, becoming the club with the highest representation in the Portuguese Olympic Team and with honors in Regional, National and International Championships, winning several Iberian, European and World titles.

Through qualified programs, graduated Coaches, new boats and equipment, the CNC Sailing School ensures excellence in sailing education, having received the GOLD category among the sailing schools certified by the Portuguese Sailing Federation.

CNC is also the club in Portugal with the highest number of appearances at the Olympic Games, with a regular presence since 1948, where it won its first medal: Silver in the Swallow Class, through Duarte and Fernando Bello.

In 1952, sailors Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiúza and Francisco Rebello de Andrade won another Olympic medal for Portugal and for the CNC, this time in the Star Class, where the sailors got the bronze medal. In 1960, again in Star Class, it was Mário Gentil Quina and José Manuel Gentil Quina's win another silver medal for the CNC.

In the following editions, several sailors represented the CNC in the Portuguese Olympic Team, achieving results of excellence, with Olympic Diplomas and rankings in the top 10.

At the London Olympic Games in 2012, CNC was the club with the largest number of athletes in the entire Portuguese Olympic Team, with nine athletes representing the Clube Naval de Cascais.

In addition to sailing school and the excellent results of its sailors, Clube Naval de Cascais is now recognized for its quality and competence in organizing the biggest national and international events in the sport. Among the various regattas organized by the Club we have:
