The Olympic sailor from Clube Naval de Cascais, Bernardo Freitas, competed on the Spanish team in the SailGP Christchurch - New Zealand event. The championship took place between March 23rd and 24th and featured the participation of 10 teams: Australia, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Spain, United States, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, and Switzerland.

The Spanish team finished in fourth place but managed to climb to third position in the overall ranking for this season, after 9 stages.
